The continued success of the Santa Ana High School Wrestling program encouraged Saints alumni Jose Garcia and Gil Gutierrez and Gil’s family to start an age group wrestling program.
The Santa Ana Wolfpack Kids Wrestling Club was founded in 1999 by saints alumni Gil Gutierrez and his family. The Santa Ana Wolfpack began with Gil’s son, Jorge, and a handful of other kids ranging in age from five to thirteen years old. The club has grown over the years cultivating more local interest in the sport of wrestling.
The Santa Ana Wolfpack is now in their seventh year and going strong. Sunday tournaments regularly produce top place winners. The Wolfpack has also made a strong showing at the Sate Championships for the past few years and last year had the distinction of having their first State Champion, Jorge Gutierrez (Novice-90 lbs.).
Additionally, the Wolfpack had several kids qualify to compete at the National Championship in Green Bay, Wisconsin. This year the Santa Ana Wolfpack is working to increase that number and hopefully, bring home a National Champion.
Along with their accomplishments on the mat, the Santa Ana Wolfpck strives to be a positive place for area youth to direct their energy.
Gil has said, It has been a positive experience for those involved and something the community has needed for along time. I hope that more neighborhood kids join the ‘Wolfpack’ and use wrestling as a way to better their lives.”
The Santa Ana Wolfpack practices three times a week and participates in tournaments through
CAGWA (California Age Group Wrestling Association) every Sunday from December - March.
On behalf of the Santa Ana High School Wrestling Program we want to thank Jose, Gil & his family for Organizing and Coaching The Santa Ana Wolfpack Kids Wrestling Club.
